The mission of the Foundation is to increase resources, raise funds, and promote public awareness in support of search and rescue volunteer
activities conducted by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
2012 was a busy year for the Search and Rescue unit. During the year, Deschutes County Search and Rescue Volunteers drew 228 numbers; our average over the past ten years has been 130 to 150 missions annually. Those 2012 overall missions consisted of:
Across those various missions, and in support of DCSOSAR activities, the volunteer members donated 26,702.05 hours in 2012. The national per hour rate for volunteers in 2010 (the last year available) was $21.36, meaning those dedicated volunteers donated a return of time and talent of $616,869.32 to the local community! At the 2009 Oregon rate (the last year available) of $18.47, those same hours translate to $533,407.14."
