Deschutes County: Mountain Bike Team

Bend Oregon is a bike mecca featuring endless miles of mountain bike trails that can take you deep into forested and mountain terrain. This puts a spotlight on one of the newer SAR teams, the Mountain Bike Team. Trained to reach and treat lost and injured bikers, they also perform fire evacuations, and urban searches. They are on their way when their pagers light up. Mountain bikes can travel where ATV‘s cars and trucks do not have access, therefore, we can move up trails/roads faster. They are also faster on trails and roads than a person traveling on foot. This team can mobilize and cover vast area's fast which make them a valued SAR asset.

Bike Team Mission Statement:

The Mountain Bike team will serve as a hasty team or containment team when looking for a lost or injured subject. Additionally, the bike team will augment ground teams for efficient fire evacuation missions. These abilities make a mountain bike a valuable tool for wilderness and urban Search & Rescue operations.
